Life Without a Microwave

It’s almost non American. Committing myself to at least ten minutes of cooking time (that’s how long couscous takes start to finish) every night. Put that on the list of things I never saw myself doing. My junior year of college I could not cook myself out of a brown paper bag especially not without a microwave.

Funny enough, I’ve graduated from relying on that as my only cooking instrument. The most annoying part about not having a microwave is the half dozen “steam in a bag” veggie packs sitting unused in the freezer. Try to boil them or steam them the natural way and the veggies come out a pile of mush.

For now, I’m enjoying the exploration of cooking on the tiniest of stovetops, even if it means burning several of my plastic measuring cups and pasta spoons, but more on that later!
